Depending on your roof, budget, and goals, different solar power systems and PV setups may be suitable. All convert sunlight into electricity – for self-consumption or grid feed-in.
Rooftop System
The classic option: modules mounted on your existing roof. Suitable for almost any building and quick to install.
In-Roof System
Modules replace roof tiles for a seamless look. Ideal for new builds or roof renovations.
Flat Roof System
Tilted modules on flat roofs allow optimal sun orientation – especially common on commercial buildings.
Balcony Power Plant
Mini PV systems that plug into a socket. Ideal for renters or small spaces – simple and often permit-free.
A solar power system (PV system) typically pays for itself within 8–12 years and produces virtually free electricity after that.
How Much Does a PV System Cost?
Costs depend on size, module type, and installation effort.
- System size (kWp) and number of modules
- Module type and efficiency
- Roof shape, pitch and orientation
- Installation effort and scaffolding needs
- Inverter and system technology
- Optional battery storage (size and manufacturer)
- Wallbox or smart home integration

Running Costs & Yield
PV systems have very low operating costs and deliver electricity for decades.
- Maintenance costs: approx. €100 – €200 per year
- Module lifespan: 25–30 years
- Self-consumption saves 25–35 ct/kWh vs. grid electricity
- Combining with a heat pump maximizes self-consumption
Using your own solar power for a heat pump means heating at virtually zero cost.
Subsidies & Feed-in Tariff
Photovoltaics are widely subsidized – through feed-in tariffs and regional programs.
- Feed-in tariff: between 7 and 12 ct/kWh (as of 2026)
- KfW loans for PV systems and storage
- Tax exemption for small systems (up to 30 kWp)
- Regional grants depending on state and municipality
Since 2023, VAT on PV systems and storage has been abolished under certain conditions – 0% VAT.
